Overview:

Dublin City Council plans to develop a new leisure centre on the Irishtown Stadium site. This is in direct response to Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s requirement to use the existing Markievicz Sports and Fitness Centre as part of its Metrolink Project.

This new leisure centre will be part of the Irishtown Stadium site and will create a new community hub for the Dublin South East area. Dublin City Council has engaged a multi-disciplinary design team to develop the concept and progress the development through the statutory planning process.

What we are proposing:

This new leisure centre will deliver a range of new facilities alongside the refurbished athletics track, full-size all-weather pitch and small-sided soccer pitches. It is proposed that these new facilities will be incorporated into the existing stadium:

  • A 6 lane, 25 metre pool.
  • A teaching pool.
  • A larger and more advanced fitness suite/gym.
  • Larger group exercise studios.
  • Improved outdoor changing facilities.
  • A café area.
  • A village style changing area for the swimming pool.
  • Meeting spaces.
  • Improved athletics track.

Why we are proposing these changes:

Dublin City Council plans to develop this new leisure centre in Irishtown in direct response to Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s requirement to use the existing Markievicz Sports and Fitness Centre as part of its Metrolink Project.
