Reimagining George’s Dock—together
Dublin City Council is inviting feedback from all interested individuals and organisations on the future use of George’s Dock. This consultation is part of a wider effort to ensure that any redevelopment aligns with the city’s strategic priorities and reflects diverse perspectives. Whether you live, work, visit, or simply care about the future of George's Dock, your views are welcome and valued.
George’s Dock is a place where Dublin’s maritime past meets its urban future. Originally constructed in 1821 and named after King George IV, the dock was designed by renowned engineer John Rennie the Elder and later completed by his son. It formed part of the Custom House Docks, a vital hub of trade and commerce in 19th-century Dublin, alongside the historic Custom House and Stack A warehouse (now the CHQ Building).
Over the decades, George’s Dock has evolved—from a working dock to hosting cultural events and markets. Its granite walls and water basin remain as reminders of its Georgian engineering and maritime legacy. A nearby Triumphal Arch, commemorating the Duke of Wellington’s victory at Salamanca, was relocated here in 1998, further enriching the site’s historical significance.
