Chapelizod Hill Road

This new scheme will improve walking and cycling infrastructure on Chapelizod Hill Road. It will extend from the Chapelizod Hill Road/Kylemore Road junction to the Chapelizod Hill Road/Lucan Road (R148)/Laurence’s Road junction.

The scheme is approximately 0.4 kilometres and extends from the Chapelizod Hill Road/Kylemore Road junction to the Chapelizod Hill Road/Lucan Road (R148)/Laurence’s Road junction. It will provide a dedicated northeastbound (downhill) contraflow cycling route. This allows cyclists to travel safely in the opposite direction to southwestbound (uphill) vehicular traffic.

This will be achieved by providing a two-way cycle track for 0.13 kilometres on the northern side of Chapelizod Hill Road.

The remaining part of the route will be a mix of a protected one-way cycle track and cyclists sharing the road which vehicles along with traffic-calming measures.

This scheme will make it safer and easier to walk, wheel and cycle between Ballyfermot and Chapelizod and will form part of a broader network of sustainable transport infrastructure in the area. The scheme:

  • joins Kylemore Road which is to be upgraded as part of the Liffey Valley to City Centre BusConnects Scheme
  • joins the planned Chapelizod Road and Conyngham Road Active Travel Scheme
  • forms part of the wider Chapelizod to Walkinstown Active Travel Scheme, which extends from Walkinstown Roundabout northwards to Chapelizod
  • is part of Dublin City Council's 314km Active Travel Network. To see where it fits into this citywide network, you can view our interactive GIS map Dublin City Council's Active Travel Network | Dublin City Council
