Public Participation in the Identification of New Bathing Waters
Dublin City Council is inviting your views on bathing waters in the city. Each year, we review which coastal and inland waters should be officially classified as bathing waters. These locations must meet strict water quality standards to protect public health.
This is your opportunity to:
- Help us review existing bathing water locations with a view to continued designation.
- Suggest new locations used for swimming which may receive designations.
- Share your experience of facilities, access and safety.
Why this matters:
Bathing water status means:
- Water quality is regularly monitored.
- Results are published publicly.
- Actions are taken if standards are not met.
Your feedback will help inform decisions under national regulations. Your input helps ensure the right locations are monitored and protected.
Dublin City Council's existing designated bathing waters are:
- Dollymount Strand
- Sandymount Strand
- Half Moon Bathing Location
Dublin City Council also monitors waters at: Merrion Strand, Shelley Banks and the North Bull Wall. Further information on specific bathing locations can be found on the National Bathing Water Website.

All submissions should follow the Environmental Protection Agency's guidance on public submissions and the identification process. Applications should be made using the format outlined in the guidance. Failure to provide adequate information may result in the application being deemed invalid.
